Copernican Instruments
It may seem as though a Copernican volvelle system would be impractical. Certainly, the disk apparatus is more complex than that for a Ptolemaic device. But in fact Copernican systems were constructed. This is a hand-made example, to be found inserted in a copy of Copernicus’s De Revolutionibus itself in Aberdeen, Scotland.
